Marco Baciu is a jazz guitar player from Cluj-Napoca Romania . At the age of 12, he had his first encounter with the guitar and it didn’t take him long to realize that he wanted to become a proffesional musician.
He started taking guitar lessons at Voltaj Academy, a private classes school in his home town where he met guitar teacher, Daniel Ilca. He taught the fundamentals of guitar and each new concept that helped to develop his passion even more. As time passed by, Marco attended Colegiul De Muzică „Sigismund Toduță” where he got involved with classical guitar. There he was given the opportunity to learn from various proffesors of classical guitar and to enhance his musical knowledge of theory and various concepts. After 3 years of studying, at 17 he graduated in 2021 obtaining a diploma specialised in classical guitar.
During all this time, while playing classical music, Marco was aiming for jazz, studying separately the electric guitar. The blues came first. With artists like Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and B.B KING, all these musicians shaped and inspired Marco which led him to learn jazz guitar.
Because his guitar teacher was passionate about blues, he showed Marco all kinds of new songs and that side of music started to attract him. He managed to expand his playing vocabulary by listening to great musician and bands: Kenny Burrell , Wes Montgomery , Joe Pass, Jim Hall and many others. After studying all of these artists, he decided to take the next step and explore in depth this music.
With the help of the famous Romanian jazz guitar player Alex Man, Marco started to prepare for the entrance exams for the conservatory in The Netherlands. After months of practice he got accepted in the Royal Conservatorie The Hague” where he learned the language of Bebop music. After just one year of exploring the scene he decided to move in Maastricht. Under the wing of the highly successful German guitar player Joachim Schoenecker, Marco is currently doing his bachelor in jazz guitar at the ”Consevatorium Maastricht”.
For the time being, Marco is focusing on developing and creating music and participating in various competitions and concerts, where he will take any chance to make his dream of becoming a professional musician, come true.
